SpyFu review and pricing: what each plan costs per tracked keyword, and why every plan tracks weekly

The short answer

SpyFu costs $39 a month for Basic (5,000 tracked keywords, one site), $119 for Pro + AI (15,000 keywords, ten sites, API) and $249 for Team/Agency (50,000 keywords, five users), or 25 percent less paid annually. Per keyword that is the cheapest rank tracking we have priced. The catch: SpyFu lists every plan's allowance as weekly tracked rankings. There is no daily tier at any price.

Every figure here was read from SpyFu's own pricing page, its API pricing documentation and its help center, in US dollars. Where SpyFu leaves something unstated, this page says so.

The published plans

SpyFu pricing plans: three tiers, one cadence.

SpyFu is a competitor research tool first. You type any domain and see the keywords it ranks and bids on, its ad copy history and roughly ten years of organic ranking history. Rank tracking for your own keyword list is part of the "Reports and Automation" block on each plan, and it is sold in large allowances: 5,000, 15,000 and 50,000 keywords.

The word next to every one of those allowances is "Weekly". It is printed on the plan cards, in the comparison table and in the tooltip, which explains that the allowance lets you "track a domain's weekly rank updates on keywords that you select". So the fair way to read SpyFu's price is as a very large weekly tracker bundled with a competitor database.

The two prices on Pro + AI

Pro + AI is advertised at $59, but that is the first month only. The card says "$119/month thereafter". Budget $119, or $89 a month if you pay for the year up front.

SpyFu plans, monthly and annual prices, keyword allowance, projects, users, API and white label, as published by the vendor
Plan Monthly Paid annually Tracked keywords Site projects, users API and white label
Basic $39 $29/mo 5,000, weekly 1 project, 1 user Neither
Pro + AI $119 ($59 first month) $89/mo 15,000, weekly 10 projects, 1 user, $30 per extra Both, $40 monthly API credit
Team/Agency $249 $187/mo 50,000, weekly Unlimited projects, 5 users, $30 per extra Both, $100 monthly API credit

What Basic leaves out

The $39 plan is where most small buyers start, and the plan card marks eight items as not included. Read them before you decide Basic is enough, because two of them (white label and the API) are the ones agencies usually need.

White labeled reporting

Pro + AI and up. Basic reports carry SpyFu branding.

API access

Pro + AI and up, with a $40 or $100 monthly credit.

Google Search Console integration

Pro + AI and up.

Full ranking history

Basic does not get the 10+ years of historical data.

Unlimited search results

Basic caps results and exports at 10,000 rows.

ChatGPT integration and AI tools

RivalFlow, AI brand monitoring and SpyFu data in ChatGPT start on Pro + AI.

What a tracked keyword really costs

SpyFu cost per tracked keyword and per 1,000 rank checks.

We price every tracker two ways. Per keyword tells you what a slot on your list costs. Per 1,000 checks tells you what a single ranking reading costs, which is the fair way to compare a weekly tracker with a daily one. A weekly keyword is read about 4.3 times a month and a daily keyword 30 times.

SpyFu comes out cheap on both measures, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. On monthly billing it costs less per reading than our daily plans. On annual billing the gap mostly closes, because our yearly price is half the monthly one.

Cost per tracked keyword and per 1,000 rank checks for SpyFu and Serpstracker, monthly and annual billing
Plan Keywords and cadence Monthly: per keyword Monthly: per 1,000 checks Annual: per 1,000 checks
SpyFu Basic 5,000, weekly $0.008 $1.80 $1.34
SpyFu Pro + AI 15,000, weekly $0.008 $1.83 $1.37
SpyFu Team/Agency 50,000, weekly $0.005 $1.15 $0.86
Serpstracker Starter 250, daily $0.156 $5.20 $2.60
Serpstracker Growth 1,500, daily $0.066 $2.20 $1.10
Serpstracker Agency 5,000, daily $0.050 $1.66 $0.83

Weekly plans are counted at 52 readings a year (4.33 a month), daily plans at 30 a month, one location and one device per keyword, full allowance used. SpyFu annual prices are $29, $89 and $187 a month. Serpstracker yearly billing is the price of six months: $19.50, $49.50 and $124.50 a month.

The number that the table cannot show.

A cheap reading is only useful if it arrives when you need it. On a weekly schedule, a money keyword that falls from position 3 to 14 on a Tuesday can sit unseen until the next update, up to six days later. For a site that sells from search, that is most of a week of lost leads before anybody knows to look, and the weekly chart flattens the day by day movement you would need to tie the drop to a Google update or a site release.

SpyFu cannot be bought daily at any price, so the per check column is comparing different products. If weekly suits your reporting, SpyFu is excellent value. If you need to know the same day, the relevant comparison is against other daily rank trackers, where a slot on our own plans costs between $0.05 and $0.16 a month.

Daily in SpyFu, read carefully

SpyFu's help center describes a My Sites dashboard with "daily snapshots" of a domain's keyword count, estimated clicks and average position.

That is a daily view of domain level totals from SpyFu's own database. It is useful for spotting a sitewide slide, but it is not a daily position for each keyword on your list, which the pricing page still sells as weekly.

SpyFu priced for four real briefs

Which SpyFu plan you actually need, and what it costs a year.

SpyFu's keyword allowance is almost never the limit. The limits that push buyers up a tier are the number of site projects, users, white label and the API. These four briefs show where each one bites.

SpyFu plan required and yearly cost for four rank tracking briefs, compared with Serpstracker
Brief SpyFu plan needed What forces it SpyFu a year, annual Serpstracker a year, daily
One site, 250 keywords, one user Basic Nothing, Basic fits $348 $234 Starter
Three sites, 1,000 keywords, one user Pro + AI Basic allows one site project $1,068 $594 Growth
Ten client sites, 1,500 keywords, branded reports Pro + AI White label starts on Pro + AI $1,068 $594 Growth, CSV only, no branded PDF
25 client sites, 5,000 keywords, API Team/Agency Pro + AI allows ten site projects $2,244 $1,494 Agency, API included

SpyFu yearly totals are the annual monthly rate times twelve. Serpstracker yearly totals are the yearly plan price. Neither includes tax.

Basic is a one site plan

The 5,000 keyword allowance looks agency sized, but Basic allows one live site tracking project. Anyone watching a second site, even a single competitor of their own, is on Pro + AI.

Seats add up on Pro + AI

Pro + AI includes one user at $30 per extra. Four people cost $209 a month on monthly billing, and a fifth takes it to $239, within $10 of Team/Agency, which includes five.

The API is priced per row

The $40 and $100 credits are spent at a published rate per 1,000 rows returned. Ranking history endpoints cost $3.00 per 1,000 rows, so the included credit covers about 13,000 and 33,000 history rows a month.

SpyFu review: where it earns the price

A SpyFu review from a tracker vendor, so read the concessions first.

We sell a daily rank tracker. SpyFu sells a competitor research database that includes a weekly tracker. Most of what SpyFu charges for is something we do not do at all, and pricing it as though the research tools were padding would be unfair to it.

Any competitor, not just your list

Type a rival domain and see the keywords it ranks and bids on. We only track the keywords you give us, for your sites and the competitors you name.

Ten years of ranking history

Pro + AI and Team/Agency include 10+ years of organic ranking history for domains in the SpyFu database. Our history starts the day you add a keyword.

Paid search research

Ad history, ad copy and pre-built Google Ads campaigns are a core of the product. We track organic positions only and have no paid search data.

Huge weekly allowances

5,000 keywords for $39 is the cheapest weekly tracking we have priced. For a stable site reported monthly, weekly is often all you need.

White label and scheduled PDFs

Pro + AI and up remove SpyFu branding from PDF reports and email them on a schedule. We export CSV and offer an API on Agency; there is no branded PDF and no share link.

A 30 day money back guarantee

No forms and no questions, with cancellation by email, chat, phone or the account page. There is no free trial advertised, so the guarantee is the trial.

SpyFu alternative for daily rank tracking

Who should buy SpyFu, and who should buy a daily tracker instead.

Buy SpyFu if you spend most of your time on competitor research, you run Google Ads as well as SEO, and weekly positions for your own keywords are enough. Pro + AI at $89 a month on annual billing is strong value for that job, and nothing we sell replaces it.

Buy a daily tracker if you need to know the day a money keyword drops, or you report daily movement to clients. Serpstracker checks every keyword daily on every plan: $39 for 250 keywords, $99 for 1,500 across ten sites and $249 for 5,000 across unlimited sites with the API, and a year costs the same as six months. It is Google organic only, stores the top 10 for every check and sends drop alerts by email and Slack. It has no competitor database and no paid search data, so many teams run it next to SpyFu rather than instead of it.

For the whole market on one basis, see the rank tracker cost comparison. If you are weighing SpyFu against a suite, our Semrush pricing and Ahrefs pricing pages price their trackers the same way, and the SpyFu alternative for daily rank tracking article prices five daily trackers against SpyFu on two real briefs.

Questions buyers ask before they commit

SpyFu pricing questions, answered from the vendor's own page.

How much does SpyFu cost?

SpyFu costs $39 a month for Basic, $119 a month for Pro + AI (the first month is $59) and $249 a month for Team/Agency. Paid annually the same plans are $29, $89 and $187 a month, a 25 percent saving that SpyFu advertises as three months free. Every plan carries a 30 day money back guarantee.

Is SpyFu worth it?

SpyFu is worth it if competitor research is the job: ten years of organic ranking history, paid ad history and keyword data for any domain, with unlimited searches from Pro + AI up. It is poor value if daily positions for your own keywords are the reason you are buying, because every SpyFu plan tracks your chosen keywords weekly.

Does SpyFu track rankings daily?

No. The pricing page labels the keyword allowance on every plan as "Weekly tracked keyword rankings", and the tooltip says it lets you "track a domain's weekly rank updates on keywords that you select". SpyFu's My Sites dashboard does keep daily snapshots, but of domain level numbers such as keyword count and estimated clicks, not a daily position for each keyword on your list.

How many keywords can you track with SpyFu?

Basic tracks 5,000 keywords, Pro + AI 15,000 and Team/Agency 50,000, all updated weekly. Basic also limits you to one live site tracking project, Pro + AI allows ten and Team/Agency is unlimited. Those allowances are generous for the price, and they are the reason SpyFu looks cheap per keyword next to daily trackers.

What does SpyFu Basic not include?

Basic leaves out white labeled reporting, API access, Google Search Console integration, pre-built Google Ads campaigns, the ChatGPT integration, AI brand monitoring and the full ten years of history. Search results and exports are capped at 10,000 rows. It includes 5,000 weekly tracked keywords, one live site project and ten automated reports.

Does SpyFu have an API, and what does it cost?

Yes, on Pro + AI and Team/Agency only. Pro + AI includes a $40 monthly API credit and Team/Agency $100. Usage beyond the credit is billed per row returned, at a published price per 1,000 rows that runs from $0.20 for competitor lookups to $5.00 for top pages, with ranking history endpoints at $3.00.

Does SpyFu charge per user?

Yes. Basic and Pro + AI include one user and Team/Agency includes five. Pro + AI and Team/Agency charge $30 a month for each additional user, and the plan comparison table lists $15 for an extra user on Basic. A five person team on Pro + AI therefore pays $239 a month, only $10 less than Team/Agency.

Does SpyFu have white label reports?

On Pro + AI and Team/Agency, yes. The pricing page describes them as custom PDF-ready reports where "you can remove any SpyFu branding before you share it", and scheduled reports can be emailed to clients. Basic has no white labeling. Automated reports are capped at 10 on Basic, 100 on Pro + AI and unlimited on Team/Agency.

Does SpyFu offer a refund?

Yes. SpyFu offers a 30 day money back guarantee on its plans, with no forms and no questions, and it says you can cancel by email, live chat, phone or from your account page. That makes a paid month a low risk way to test it, which matters because SpyFu does not advertise a free trial on its pricing page.

What is the best SpyFu alternative for rank tracking?

For daily positions at a fixed price, Serpstracker checks every keyword daily on every plan: $99 a month for 1,500 keywords, $249 for 5,000 with the API, or half that billed yearly. If you want competitor research and daily tracking in one suite, SE Ranking and Semrush both track daily, at higher prices than SpyFu.
