What Serpstracker does not do
Google only, and organic only. We store the top 10 organic results per check, not the top 100. There is no site audit crawler, no backlink index, no keyword research database, no local pack or Google Maps grid, and no single weighted share of voice or visibility score. What features should a rank tracker have?
Five, and everything else is decoration. A daily position check for every keyword, the surrounding organic results stored so you can see who moved, competitor domains on the same rows as your own, an alert that fires the day a keyword drops, and a report you can hand to a client without rebuilding it by hand. A tracker that does those five properly beats a suite that does twenty of them approximately.
What is rank tracking software?
Rank tracking software records where your pages appear in search results for keywords you choose, on a schedule, and keeps the history. Instead of typing a query into Google and guessing, you get a dated position for every keyword, every day, from a consistent location and device, which is what makes the numbers comparable week to week.
How often should rankings be checked?
Daily, if the keywords matter to revenue. A weekly check can hide a drop for six days, which is six days of lost traffic before anyone knows. Daily checking is also what makes drop alerts useful, since an alert is only worth having if it arrives while the cause is still fresh enough to diagnose.
Does Serpstracker track Bing or other search engines?
No. Serpstracker checks Google only, and organic results only. That is a deliberate limit rather than a roadmap item. If you need multiple engines in one keyword list, SE Ranking and Ranktracker both do it, and SE Ranking meters it as keyword times engine so a second engine halves your allowance.
Can you track rankings by city and by mobile?
Yes, for tracked keywords. Each keyword you add carries its own location and device, so the same phrase can be tracked in three cities on desktop and mobile as separate rows with separate histories. The free checker on this page is a national desktop check and takes no location or device setting.
How many keywords should I track?
Track what you would act on. For most sites that is 100 to 500 commercial keywords rather than every phrase the site could rank for. A list you actually read every morning is worth more than a list ten times the size that nobody opens.
Do I need a rank tracker if I have Search Console?
They answer different questions. Search Console reports an average position blended across every location, device and impression, delayed by two to three days, for queries Google chooses to show you. A rank tracker reports one exact position for one keyword in one place on one device, today, including keywords you have never ranked for yet.
Does rank tracking include AI Overviews?
Not in Serpstracker. Our daily check collects the organic result set and deliberately skips ads, AI Overviews and People Also Ask, so a position of 3 means third organic result. We do not record which SERP features appeared. If tracking AI answers is the requirement, that is a different category of tool.
