Position tracking

Search engine position tracker for daily Google rankings

The short answer

A search engine position tracker re-reads where your pages rank in Google for a fixed keyword list, keeps every reading with its date, and tells you when a position moves. SerpsTracker does it once every 24 hours from a fixed US context, records the whole organic top 10 around you, and sends a same-day alert when a keyword drops, from $49 per month.

Every reading comes from the same unpersonalized US context, so the chart shows movement in Google and not noise from your own location.

What a position tracker has to do

A position is only useful next to yesterday's position.

Typing a keyword into Google and counting down the page gives you a number that is wrong in at least three ways: it is personalized to you, it depends on where you are standing, and it has no history. Ranking sixth is good news if you were twelfth last month and bad news if you were second on Tuesday. One reading cannot say which.

A tracker removes you from the loop. The same keywords are read on a schedule, from the same country and device profile, and every reading is stored. After two weeks you stop asking what your position is and start asking why it moved. After a month you hold a baseline you can measure a deploy, a link campaign or a core update against.

For paid work the interval matters more than the dashboard. A weekly reading can hide a drop for six days, which on a page that earns leads is a week of lost revenue before anyone looks. That is why every SerpsTracker plan reads daily, and why the daily rank tracker is the core of the product and not a premium tier.

Checklist before you pay for any tracker

  • Fixed context. Same country, same device profile, every reading.
  • Daily interval on the plan you buy. Not only on the top tier.
  • Competitor rows. Who holds the other nine slots, and who took yours.
  • Alerts. A message the day a threshold breaks, by email or Slack.
  • Export and API. Your history leaves with you as CSV, and Agency and above can pull it by API.
What each SerpsTracker plan tracks

Four plans, one daily schedule.

The plan decides how many keywords and sites you track and which alert channels you get. It never decides how often positions are read. Full detail is on the pricing page.

How it works

From keyword list to a daily chart in four steps.

1

Add your site

Enter the domain and pick the country. Signing up takes an email and a 6 digit code.

2

Paste your keywords

Start with the pages that earn revenue, then the terms you are chasing, then a sample of the long tail.

3

First positions land

The first readings arrive within minutes and the schedule repeats every 24 hours.

4

Set an alert

Choose the drop that matters to you. The message arrives the day it happens.

Who tracks positions this way

Teams that answer to a ranking number.

Agencies

A client asks why leads dipped on Thursday. A daily history answers in one look and shows whether the cause was a competitor or an update. See rank tracking for agencies.

In-house SEO teams

After a release or a migration you need to know within a day whether rankings held. Weekly data answers that a week late. Larger programs can look at enterprise rank tracking.

Owners of lead-driven sites

A local service business or a SaaS site with a handful of money keywords does not need 50,000 terms. It needs those twenty read every day. See rank tracking for small business.

Position tracking questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a search engine position tracker?

A search engine position tracker is software that reads where your pages rank in Google for a fixed list of keywords, stores each reading with its date, and shows the movement over time. A good one also records which competitor holds the other slots and alerts you when a position breaks a threshold.

How do I track my position in search engines?

Add your domain and keyword list to a position tracker, choose the country you sell in, and let it re-read the results on a schedule. SerpsTracker does this once every 24 hours from a fixed US context and keeps every reading, so the chart shows real movement and not your own location.

How accurate is a search engine position tracker?

It is accurate for trend, less so for a single number. Google personalizes results, so any tracker reports one fixed context rather than what every searcher sees. Because SerpsTracker reads every keyword from the same unpersonalized US context each day, a move in the chart is a move in Google.

How often should I check search engine positions?

Daily for any keyword that earns money or that you are actively working on. Weekly readings hide a drop for up to six days and cannot separate a core update from ordinary noise. Rarely changing long-tail terms can be read less often, but the revenue terms should not wait.

Does it track more than Google?

SerpsTracker is built around Google organic results in the US, which is where most buyer traffic comes from. It records the whole organic top 10 for each keyword, so you see competitors and SERP movement as well as your own row.

How much does a search engine position tracker cost?

SerpsTracker starts at $49 a month for 250 daily-checked keywords on 3 sites. Growth is $99 for 1,500 keywords and 10 sites, Agency is $249 for 5,000 keywords and unlimited sites, and Enterprise is $498 for 10,000 keywords. Every plan checks daily.

Can I track competitor positions too?

Yes. Every check stores the full organic top 10, so the domain above and below you is recorded without any extra setup. Growth and above add named competitors per site, which gives you a side by side history of who gained when you lost.

Can I get an alert when a position drops?

Yes. Set a threshold, for example a fall of three places or an exit from the top 10, and the alert goes out by email on every plan and by Slack on Growth and above. The message arrives the day the reading changes, not at the next weekly report.

Is Google Search Console enough instead of a position tracker?

Search Console is the only source of your real impressions and clicks, so keep it. But its average position blends every query, device and location, and it says nothing about who outranks you. A tracker gives the per keyword, per day picture that Search Console cannot.
