Rank tracker pricing per client: what agencies actually pay at 10, 25 and 50 clients
Agency SEO tools bill one of two ways: per client account or per tracked keyword. At 50 keywords a client, a per client platform like AgencyAnalytics runs about $242 a month at 10 clients and $1,208 at 50 once the rank tracking add-on is included. A per keyword tracker covers the same rosters for $99 and $249, because keyword ceilings are wide and client count is not metered. The catch is that those are not the same product, and which one is cheaper depends entirely on how many keywords each client brings.

The two billing models, and why they diverge
A reporting platform charges for the client account. You add a client, the bill goes up, and everything inside that account is unlocked. A rank tracker charges for the keyword. You add keywords, the bill goes up, and the number of client sites is usually irrelevant or unlimited. Both are reasonable. They just fail in opposite directions.
Per client pricing punishes agencies with deep keyword lists. Per keyword pricing punishes agencies with a long roster of tiny accounts. Most people pick a tool on features and only discover which side of that line they are on when the roster changes, which is usually the worst moment to migrate.
What the invoice looks like at 10, 25 and 50 clients
The table assumes 50 tracked keywords per client, which is on the lean side for a retainer that reports on rankings. All figures are monthly, at the annual billing rate each vendor advertises, read off their own pricing pages in August 2026.
| Clients | Keywords | AgencyAnalytics | Serpstracker | Ahrefs Standard |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 500 | $241.67 | $99 (Growth) | $249 |
| 25 | 1,250 | $604.18 | $99 (Growth) | $249 |
| 50 | 2,500 | $1,208.35 | $249 (Agency) | Over ceiling |
AgencyAnalytics is $20 per client per month plus a rank tracking add-on at $41.67 per 500 keywords, shown pro rata. Serpstracker Growth holds 1,500 keywords at $99 and Agency holds 5,000 at $249, both across unlimited client sites. Ahrefs Standard holds 2,000 tracked keywords at $249, so the 50 client row exceeds it.
Read that table honestly and it is not a verdict, it is a warning about mismatched models. AgencyAnalytics is a full client reporting platform pulling 85+ integrations into branded dashboards with unlimited client logins. We do none of that. If you are paying it for the reporting, the rank tracking add-on is a rounding error and the comparison is meaningless. If you were paying it for the rankings, you are paying a platform rate per client for a feature that sits outside the platform.
The frequency column nobody prices in
Cost per keyword is the standard comparison and it quietly flatters weekly tools. A keyword checked once a week and a keyword checked every morning count identically, even though one produces 4.3 data points a month and the other produces 30. Divide by checks received instead of keywords held and the ordering changes: the AgencyAnalytics add-on lands near $0.019 per ranking check, against roughly $0.002 on a daily tracker at agency volume. Ahrefs and Moz both refresh weekly on every plan they sell.
This matters most on the day something breaks. A weekly refresh can hide a drop for six days, which is six days of a client watching traffic fall while your report still shows last week's position. It also destroys the diagnosis, because a movement that appeared sometime in the past seven days cannot be lined up against a specific deploy, a title rewrite or an algorithm update. That is the whole argument for daily rank tracking, and no amount of reporting polish substitutes for it.
Four things to price before you sign
Vendors publish the headline rate and bury the meters. These are the four that move the real number, in the order they usually bite.
- Is rank tracking in the plan or beside it? On per client platforms it is frequently an add-on with its own keyword meter, so the advertised rate is not the SEO budget.
- How is a keyword counted? SE Ranking counts keyword times search engine, so one client tracked in Google and Bing consumes double. Mangools counts desktop and mobile as two slots.
- What does white labeling cost? Branded reports are bundled on some tools and a paid tier or add-on on others. Our white label rank tracker page prices that per vendor.
- Are seats and client logins metered? Per seat charges scale with your team rather than your revenue, and read only client access is sometimes billed as a full seat.
Rankings are also only one panel of a client report. When a retainer covers reputation as well as search, the questions clients ask next tend to be about where they are being mentioned rather than where they rank, and tracking brand mentions across social and news is a separate feed you will want running beside the position chart rather than bolted onto it.
Questions agencies ask about per client pricing
Is per client or per keyword pricing cheaper for an agency?
Per keyword is cheaper for most SEO agencies, because keyword ceilings are wide and client count goes unmetered. Per client wins when you carry many small accounts that each track a handful of terms and you also need full multi channel reporting. Work out your total keyword count first, then divide by clients.
How much does rank tracking cost per client?
On a per keyword tracker at 50 keywords a client, expect roughly $2.50 to $5 per client per month. Serpstracker Agency is $249 for 5,000 keywords, which is about $2.49 a client across 50 clients. A per client reporting platform with a tracking add-on lands nearer $24 a client at the same volume.
Do agencies need a separate rank tracker if they use a reporting platform?
Often yes, and specifically when the platform's tracking is weekly or metered too tightly. Most reporting platforms will ingest ranking data from an external tracker, so the common setup is a dedicated daily tracker feeding the reporting layer rather than paying the platform for rankings it refreshes once a week.
What happens to the price when you win five new clients?
On per client pricing the bill rises immediately and predictably, at the client rate times five. On per keyword pricing nothing changes until you cross a keyword ceiling, at which point the bill jumps a whole tier at once. Neither is better; they just make budgeting feel different.
For the full teardown of the per client model, see AgencyAnalytics pricing. For the tracker side, the agency rank tracker page covers client groups and seats, and the rank tracker cost comparison runs cost per keyword and cost per check across eleven tools. If you are moving a roster between tools, how to switch rank trackers covers keeping the history intact.
