DataForSEO alternative for rank tracking, from raw SERP APIs to trackers with an API
Nothing we have verified sells raw Google results cheaper than DataForSEO's $0.60 per 1,000. So the real alternatives win on something else. SerpApi gives live answers on every call. Trackers with an API, from Keyword.com at $46 to SE Ranking at $129 and SerpsTracker at $249 for 5,000 daily keywords, remove the scheduler, the database and the alerting you would otherwise build and keep running.

Why people look for a DataForSEO alternative
Hardly anyone leaves DataForSEO over the per-call price. They leave over the work around it. A typical story goes like this: someone at an agency wires the Google Organic SERP API into a script that runs every night, writes positions to a spreadsheet and works fine for three months. Then the client list doubles, a batch of tasks fails quietly, the script misses that the client's site moved to a new subdomain, and Monday's report shows a crash that never happened. The data cost $40 that month. The cleanup took a day.
The second reason is depth. DataForSEO bills one results page of 10 as its unit, and asking for the top 100 bills 10 pages per keyword, which we break down on the DataForSEO pricing page. A 1,000 keyword list checked daily to position 100 on the standard queue is $180 a month, not $18. Teams that budgeted on the headline rate find out on the first invoice.
So before picking a replacement, decide which problem you are solving. If you like owning the pipeline and just want a different data source, you need another SERP API. If you want rankings without the pipeline, you need a rank tracker that exposes its data through an API.
Raw SERP APIs, if you are keeping the build
These return the results page and leave everything else to you. The prices below come from each provider's own page, as recorded in our SERP API pricing comparison, and they are per 1,000 Google searches at the entry tier.
| Provider | Per 1,000 Google searches | Speed | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| DataForSEO, standard queue | $0.60 | About 5 minutes, 45 minute target | Queued. Top 100 costs 10x. $50 minimum top-up. |
| DataForSEO, Live | $2.00 | About 6 seconds | Still the cheapest live rate we have verified. |
| SerpApi | $25 on the entry plan | Live on every plan | Monthly subscription tiers, about 40x the DataForSEO queued rate. |
| ScraperAPI | $12.25 effective | Live | Google costs 25 credits a request, so the plan headline misleads. |
Switching SERP APIs fixes a speed problem or a vendor preference. It does not fix the failure modes in the story above, because those live in your code, not in the data. If you stay on this route, treat the tracker like production software: log every task, alert on a batch that returns fewer results than it sent, and put the scheduler behind uptime monitoring for your API endpoints and cron jobs so a silent failure pages someone the same night instead of showing up in a client report.
Rank trackers with an API, if you want to stop building
A rank tracker does the scheduling, retries, URL matching, storage and alerting, and the API hands you the finished positions. The question is which plan the API sits on, because several vendors keep it off their cheaper tiers. Each figure is from the vendor's own pricing page.
| Tracker | Cheapest plan with API | Refresh | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keyword.com | $46 API only, 1,000 keywords | Daily | API only plan without the dashboard; API also on every platform plan. |
| SE Ranking | $129 Core, 2,000 keywords | Daily | Rank data through the Projects API uses plan limits, not credits. |
| Ahrefs | $129 Lite, 750 keywords | Weekly | Rank Tracker endpoints use no API units, but weekly is too slow for alerts. |
| SerpsTracker | $249 Agency, 5,000 keywords | Daily | Unlimited sites, flat rate, $124.50 billed yearly. Organic top 10 only. |
| Semrush | $549 Advanced | Daily | API units are bought on top of the plan. |
| AccuRanker | $764 Expert, 10,000 keywords | Daily | Read API only; the $224 plan has none. |
The detail for each row is in our SE Ranking API pricing, Keyword.com API pricing, Ahrefs API pricing, Semrush API pricing and AccuRanker API pricing breakdowns. The wider list, including AuthorityLabs, Wincher, SEOmonitor and Ranktracker, is in best rank tracker with an API.
How to choose between the two routes
Run the numbers on your own list. Take your keyword count, multiply by the devices and cities you track, and price it on DataForSEO's standard queue at the depth you need. Then add an honest estimate of the hours you spend each month keeping the pipeline alive, at whatever your time bills at. Compare that total with the tracker plan that covers the same count.
At 5,000 daily keywords to the top 10, DataForSEO's data is about $90 a month and our Agency plan is $249. If the pipeline costs you less than $159 a month in time and hosting, keep building; that is a real saving and we would not pretend otherwise. If one bad week a quarter eats a day of senior time, the tracker is cheaper. Past position 10, or past Google, the comparison flips the other way: we read Google's organic top 10 only, so a team that needs page three or Bing should stay on a SERP API or pick SE Ranking or AccuRanker.
One more check before you commit to a tracker: confirm the API is on the plan you are about to buy. On AccuRanker and Wincher the entry plan has none, and on Semrush the units cost extra. The rank tracker API page shows exactly what our endpoints return, and the general trade-off is laid out in rank tracker vs SERP API.
Where SerpsTracker fits
We do one job: daily Google rank tracking with history and drop alerts. The API comes with Agency at $249 a month, or $124.50 billed yearly, for 5,000 keywords across unlimited sites, and returns today's position per keyword, competitor columns, full daily history and the stored top 10 behind each reading. Enterprise covers 10,000 for $498. Smaller lists start on Starter at $49 for 250 keywords, without the API. The plans and limits page lists every tier.
DataForSEO alternative questions
What is the best DataForSEO alternative for rank tracking?
It depends on whether you want to keep building. If you want another raw data source, SerpApi is the common pick for live results at $25 a month for 1,000 searches. If you want to stop maintaining a tracker, pick one that ships an API: SE Ranking from $129, Keyword.com API plans from $46, or SerpsTracker Agency at $249 for 5,000 daily keywords.
Is there anything cheaper than DataForSEO?
Not for raw Google results among the providers we have verified. DataForSEO's standard queue is $0.60 per 1,000 results pages and no rival we checked lists a lower rate. Alternatives win on something else: speed on every request, a finished dashboard, history and alerts, or no code to maintain.
Is DataForSEO good for rank tracking?
As a data source, yes. It is cheap, it covers every location and device at the base price, and the queue suits a nightly job. It is not a rank tracker. Scheduling, retries, matching your URL, storing history and alerting are yours to build, and checking to position 100 costs ten times the top 10 rate.
Do I need a developer to use DataForSEO?
For rank tracking at any scale, realistically yes. DataForSEO offers a Playground, a Google Sheets connector and no-code integrations such as n8n and Make, which are fine for spot checks. A daily tracker for hundreds of keywords needs code that posts tasks, collects results and stores them, plus someone to fix it when it breaks.
Which rank trackers have an API?
Most paid trackers do, but on different plans. Keyword.com and AuthorityLabs list it on every plan, SE Ranking on every plan from $129, Wincher from its Standard plan, AccuRanker only from Expert at $764, and SerpsTracker on Agency at $249. Ahrefs Rank Tracker endpoints use no API units.
