How many keywords can you track with SE Ranking?

SE Ranking tracks 2,000 keywords a day on Core at $129 a month and 5,000 a day on Growth at $279. There is a catch in the unit. SE Ranking counts those allowances as targets, not keywords, where one target is one keyword in one search engine. Track a single engine and the numbers mean what they say. Track two and the same plan watches half as many distinct phrases.

SE Ranking is a full SEO platform, so the tracking allowance is one row in a long comparison table and most people scroll past it until the account starts refusing new keywords. It is also the limit teams hit first, well before projects, seats or audit pages. Here is the arithmetic, read off SE Ranking's own subscription page on August 19, 2026, along with the counting rule that causes nearly all of the confusion.

The keyword limits on each SE Ranking plan

Two published plans and an Enterprise tier quoted privately. Annual billing takes 20 percent off and changes none of the allowances.

Growth $279 5,000 30 3 Daily

Daily is the real cadence on both plans, which is worth saying because it is not the norm among suites. Ahrefs lists Rank Tracker updates as weekly on every tier including its $1,499 plan, and Moz updates Campaign rankings once a week on a day fixed by your signup date. SE Ranking refreshes every day inside your target budget. The full plan breakdown, including the add ons, is on our SE Ranking pricing page.

What counts as a target in SE Ranking?

A target is one keyword checked in one search engine. SE Ranking states this in the tooltip attached to the keyword row of its own plan comparison: "Daily keywords are counted as targets: keyword x search engine. Example: 30 keywords in 2 engines = 60 targets." So the allowance is a budget of daily checks, not a count of phrases.

That distinction is the single most useful thing to know before you pick a plan, because the multiplier is entirely under your control. It is not a hidden fee and it is not a downgrade. Multi engine tracking is a real capability that most standalone trackers do not offer at any price, and SE Ranking is charging for it in the only unit that makes sense. But it does mean the headline number and the size of your keyword list are two different figures.

Do locations and devices use extra keyword slots?

Plan for it as though they do. Any tracker that returns a separate position per location or per device has to run a separate check to get that number, and a separate check is what a target budget meters. If you watch the same twenty phrases in three cities, size your plan for sixty rows rather than twenty. This is not unique to SE Ranking. Mangools counts desktop and mobile as two tracked keywords for the same phrase, and most vendors do something equivalent even when the pricing page does not spell it out.

The practical habit is simple: before you commit, write down keywords times engines times locations times devices, then compare that product to the plan number. Teams that skip that multiplication are the ones who buy Core, load a client roster and discover in week two that they needed Growth.

Local and map pack keywords have their own ceiling

SE Ranking meters local pack and Google Maps tracking separately from organic. Both published plans include 1,500 local and map keywords across three business locations, with extra locations sold as an add on. That is a genuinely useful allowance if you run local clients, and it does not eat into your organic target budget. It also means the number a local agency should be sizing against is two numbers, not one.

How many keywords does the SE Ranking free trial give you?

The 14 day trial runs at reduced limits rather than full plan limits: up to 10 projects, 750 tracked keywords a day, 20 AI prompts a day and AI competitive research for up to three domains. No credit card is required. That is enough to load a real client site and see genuine daily movement, which is more than most trials in this category allow, but it is not the 2,000 that Core advertises, so do not use the trial to test whether your full list fits.

How to size an SE Ranking keyword list that fits

The instinct on a large allowance is to load everything the site could conceivably rank for. Resist it. A tracking list is a monitoring tool, and a monitoring tool with two thousand rows is one nobody reads. Four rules keep a list honest:

  • Track what you would act on. If a phrase dropped four positions tomorrow and you would do nothing about it, it does not need a daily check.
  • Decide the engines first. The engine count is your divisor. If Google is 95 percent of your traffic, tracking a second engine costs half your plan to answer a question you will not act on either.
  • Weight toward money pages. Commercial and comparison phrases move revenue. Informational long tail moves a chart.
  • Keep a small competitor set. Competitor rows consume checks too, and three named rivals tell you almost everything ten would.

One thing worth remembering while you prune: a first position only pays if the page converts the click. It is usually cheaper to fix the landing experience, or to put something on the page that answers a visitor's question the moment they arrive, than to buy another thousand tracking slots for keywords you already rank for.

What to do when you hit the SE Ranking keyword ceiling

You have three moves, in increasing order of cost. Drop an engine, which is the cheapest and usually the right one. Buy an extra keyword pack, which SE Ranking sells from about 21 euros a month on Core and about 30 on Growth without changing plans. Or move from Core to Growth, which costs $150 more a month and buys 3,000 more daily targets, twenty more projects and two more seats.

There is a fourth move worth pricing if the ranking table is genuinely the only screen you open in the platform. Suites charge for the whole platform whether or not you use the audit, the backlink index and the content editor. A dedicated tracker charges for positions and nothing else, which is why the cost per tracked keyword lands differently. Serpstracker covers 1,500 keywords checked daily in Google for $99 a month and 5,000 for $249, with no engine multiplier because there is only one engine. We are narrower on purpose: no audits, no backlink database, no share of voice score, no map pack. If you need those, SE Ranking is the better buy and we would rather say so.

The short version

SE Ranking Core tracks 2,000 keyword targets a day for $129 and Growth tracks 5,000 for $279, both refreshed daily. A target is one keyword in one engine, so the number of distinct phrases you can watch is the allowance divided by the engines you track, and locations multiply the same budget. Local and map pack keywords sit under a separate 1,500 keyword ceiling on both plans. The 14 day trial runs at 750 keywords a day rather than full plan limits. Work out keywords times engines times locations before you pick a tier, and the plan choice becomes obvious.
